Hey hi hello friends and happy Wednesday!
In an effort to make this newsletter more manageable for me while maintaining quality for you, I’m switching things up! Every other week you will get a profile of a woman you should know from history or today aka Women Wednesday Classic. During the off weeks (like this one), I’ll send some food for thought articles, podcast episodes you need to listen to, and other things I save on my phone that I think are worth sharing. Let me know if you like this new set-up! I want to do what’s best for me and for you.
Things I’m Reading This Week
Books I’m Reading: Fake by Erica Katz (physical book) and Unbound by Tarana Burke (audiobook)
Mamatoto Village: This past week was Black Maternal Health Week. Medium wrote an article about a great organization, Mamatoto Village, based in DC working to provide perinatal services and advocate for better maternal health policies. It’s led by Black birth workers, which I think is critical in doing this work. The article has some great donation and advocacy opportunities for you + all of Mamatoto’s social medz information.
Liz Plank’s Substack: I’m a huge Liz Plank fan. Did you all read her book? If not, you should. Link here. She has a Substack and it’s a great read. I particularly enjoyed “could more native land save abortion rights” and the interview with Dylan Marron. You know it’s a big deal when *I* promote an interview with a man.
Tell Your Partner to Get His Chore Life Together: My friend Emilia sent this comic that outlines the problems women often face in trying to obtain an equal division of household labor. I thought it was a great education tool, but I sent it to my dad who said it was “way too long for me.” I think it’s also possible he felt called out as he is a constant offender when it comes to household labor. Love you dad and you know I’m right :)
Things I’m Listening to This Week
Anita Hill Has a Pod: I mean, not sure what else you need here? It’s great and she’s great so go support her. PS – it’s called Getting Even which is just perfection.
Normal Gossip: It’s exactly what it sounds like, a podcast where folks discuss and analyze an anonymous tale of gossip. They also discuss why gossip is seen as taboo and gendered. You’ll learn and you’ll laugh. Sometimes you’ll cry from laughing. Episode six had me on the floor. Thanks to my friend Katie for the recommendation!
Things I’m Watching This Week
Starstruck Season Two!! It’s here, it’s here! This is one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in ages. It is Broad City meets HBO while abroad vibes. Also, it’s both created by and stars female comedian Rose Matafeo. I haven’t started Season 2 yet due to my ever-present Tik Tok addiction but I can’t wait!
Okay, that’s all for this week. See ya next week!
PS: If you’d like something featured in my newsletter, send it to me!
